AMADA WELD TECH announces that it offers anisotropic conductive film (ACF) bonding for a range of automotive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The ACF bonding systems are used to make the interconnection between the front-facing camera and the printed circuit board (PCB) that processes the data in high end cameras for collision warning and lane departure warning system (LDWS) applications. The ACF bonding systems are also used for other automotive ADAS applications, including parking/reversing, night vision, drowsiness monitors, distance warning/autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot detection.
With an ACF bond, parts are both electrically and mechanically joined together with glue that contains conductive particles. By applying precise heat, force, and time, as well as ensuring careful parts alignment, ACF bonding systems make a strong and reliable electrical-mechanical interconnection.
The ACF bonding process is ideal for fine-pitch camera interconnection applications (> 30 micron) because the particle size is smaller than those of traditional alternatives like heat seal connectors (HSCs). It also reduces costs compared to the use of zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors. This lead-free and flux-free process is an excellent choice for making electrical-mechanical connections to glass substrates or fine-pitch PCB circuits. No cleaning is required after the process and it operates in low process temperatures.
AMADA WELD TECH uses pulsed heat technology with close loop controls for ACF bonding ADAS camera interconnections. The UNIFLOW4® power supply used provides the targeted heating and precision temperature control necessary. An external MG3 digital weld monitor is used to monitor all process parameters.
